FDSA Donates $1,000 to Child of Deputy Killed in Hurricane Irma

The Florida Deputy Sheriff’s Association donated $1,000 to the child of fallen Hardee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Julie Ann Bridges through its Lend a Hand program.

Deputy Bridges was killed in a head-on crash shortly after leaving her overnight shift at a hurricane shelter during the height of Hurricane Irma’s impact on South Florida. Florida Department of Corrections Sgt. Joseph J. Ossman was the driver of the other vehicle and was also killed in the crash.

The donation will go toward helping Deputy Bridge’s daughter with living expenses following the unexpected and tragic loss of her mother.

The Florida Deputy Sheriff’s Association Lend a Hand program is a fund available to deputies and their families when they need help the most. Donations are as much as $1,000 and often delivered immediately after tragedy occurs. Membership in FDSA is not required to receive funds.

Thanks to the generosity of individual donors and corporate sponsors, more than 100 families have received assistance through the Lend a Hand program.
