The Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association is active at the Capitol, ensuring the best interests of our members are being represented. If there is an issue that is important to you, we welcome your feedback or your presence in Tallahassee.

The following is an updated listing of issues that will be of focus for the upcoming 2011 Legislative Session. This list will be updated regularly throughout the session.

Our 2011 Legislative issues of concern include:

  • One of the major issues we have been and will continue to be engaged in during 2011 is OPPOSING any changes whatsoever to the current Florida Retirement System. The Florida Retirement System and Retirement issues affect Sheriffs’ Office personnel. Such issues could include vesting, retirement age and years of service, employee contributions to the retirement system, average final compensation, accrual rates and other pertinent issues.
  • Another issue we have already met with legislators on and will continue to OPPOSE this Legislative Session is allowing private process servers to deliver eviction notices. The enforceable writ is the most dangerous writ to serve and often results in volatile situations that require trained law enforcement due to the serious threat posed to the safety of all involved.
