Lend A Hand Gives Back to Deputies in Need

Lend A Hand is a program of the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association that provides immediate financial assistance for Florida deputies and other sheriff’s office employees when unforeseen events arise or tragedy strikes. It is designed to help with related costs and needs not met through insurance and other benefits provided by FDSA and their sheriff’s office.

Here are a few recent examples of deputies receiving assistance from Lend A Hand.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office

With the help of $1,000 from the Lend A Hand program, a deputy sheriff with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office is rebuilding after losing numerous valuable belongings in a devastating house fire.

Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office

The family of a retired major with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission was given $1,000 from Lend A Hand after the officer was killed in a hit-and-run car accident that occurred while he was going for a run. The officer retired from the FWC after a 33-year professional career.

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office

The Lend A Hand Program provided $1,000 to a deserving Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputy whose family was forced to start over after losing everything when their house burned down.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office

A $1,000 Lend A Hand gift was provided to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his wife following the tragic death of their 17-year-old daughter, who was killed in a single-vehicle crash.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office

A $1,000 Lend A Hand gift was provided to the family of a 19-year veteran of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office who died after battling cancer. The lieutenant and former SWAT team commander was also a part of the Sheriff’s Office’s Emergency Management Division in the Operations Department.

Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office

The Lend A Hand Program provided a Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office deputy with $1,000 to help cover his medical bills after he was hit by a car that failed to yield while riding his motorcycle.
